2010 in review
Jan. 2nd, 2011 04:09 amLast-year’s fic roundup. For reference, previous round-ups can be found here.
American Idol RPF
nobody knows what nobody sees. Kris Allen/Everyone. Written for
plaguedbymen, Kris Allen kissing booth fic, some fund-raising thing where he sits there blindfolded and people pay $5 to kiss him. 4,770 words. (January 07, 2010)
we will break our own hearts. Kris Allen/Adam Lambert. In which they pretend to be together and maybe forget they’re pretending. Charity fic written for
christig428. 24,250 words. (March 20, 2010)
Inception
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Arthur/Ariadne. The difference between what’s dreamed and what’s real. 1,560 words. (July 20, 2010)
Harry Potter/Harry Potter RPF
and yes I said yes I will yes (or: four weddings and a funeral). Fred & George, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Arthur/Molly. Love, life, death, and Weasleys. 6,100 words. (August 20, 2010)
some girls. Rupert Grint/Emma Watson. She said, “Honestly, Rupert,” while she scourgified him. 1,930 words. (November 14, 2010)
Total: 5 fics, 3 fandoms, and 38,610 words, give or take.
My favorite story this year (my own): I suppose and yes I said yes I will yes (or: four weddings and a funeral).
My best story this year: Blargh.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I dunno. Whichever one had the fewest comments?
Most fun story: Probably plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose since it was very much a flush-with-movie-infatuation, words-pouring-out kind of story to write, which makes it the only story I wrote this year that wasn’t a laborious and even years-long process.
Sexiest story: Um, none? I don’t know! I always feel like this part of the meme would be best filled out by someone else who’s impartial.
Hardest story to write: we will break our own hearts (all that emotional torment). and yes I said yes I will yes (or: four weddings and a funeral) gets a special nod for being the longest gestating. I think I started it in 2007? A watched Weasley never boils or something like that.
Most unintentionally telling story: The architectural stuff in plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose was probably the closest.
Most "OHMIGOD HEY *I* WROTE THAT" fanon-turned-canon-moment: Rupert and Emma are totally going to do it. You heard it here first.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009: Well, the only one I hadn’t already written was Inception. And that didn’t exist yet, so it’s not entirely surprising.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Eh. While I tend to write a lot of angst and Feelings That Cannot Be, I don’t think I’ve ever written an actually unhappy relationship before (we will break our own hearts) and I think that particular fandom skews more towards either the schmoopy or the sexy. I’m still not entirely pleased with that fic. Maybe unhappiness is harder to write, maybe it’s just not my own inclination, I don’t know. But if that one hadn’t been an overdue charity fic, I would have liked to sit on it a while longer and work on the weaker parts more. So…the lesson is not to write for charity, I guess.
And this isn’t part of the original meme, but I want to remind myself of these grandiose plans later: What are you planning on writing in the coming year?:
1) Sky High, Warren/Layla - how the movie should have gone.
2) Harry Potter, Ron/Hermione – post-DH fic where they struggle with the transition from friends-who-don’t-touch to friends-who-are-allowed-to-touch, and figuring out how the roles and rules change, and bickering and exploring (haha,I typoed that as sexploring at first – maybe I should have let that one stand) and adjusting to a different world and life.
3) Harry Potter RPF, Rupert/Emma – she invites him to her graduation from Brown never expecting him to come, but he shows anyway, and it sets off a whole reacquaintance of each other as adults where they’re both new people who still somehow know each other better than anyone else ever could. She goes on a post-grad road trip with her roommates while trying to decide if she wants to stay in the States or go back to England. He calls her regularly from Bulgaria, where he’s filming a movie, and tells her Vicky says hi. Etc.
